Passing through Glengariff in Co. Cork recently, we stopped for a gander before heading over Healy Pass into Co. Kerry. Wandering through the very colourful village, the launching point for boat trips to the tropical gardens on Garnish Island, I spotted this sign.
I laughed out loud as I read it, thankful for the wit that is so uniquely Cork.
How colourful life would be if we were more creative in our signposting. This gets my vote for the best anti-litter sign. Ever.
In case you’re wondering, Tanora is a tangerine, carbonated drink sold in Ireland, predominantly in Munster. It was introduced by John Daly & Co, a mineral water bottler in Cork City and is now under the Coca-Cola brand umbrella.
If you’ve any trouble with the rest of it, ask away!
I have a vague notion I visited Garnish Island many lifetimes ago and next time I’m in the vicinity with time on my hands, I will make the journey.
The gardens of Garinish (also known as Garnish, or Ilnacullin) owe their existence to the creative partnership, some eighty years ago, of Annan and Violet Bryce, then owners of the island, and Harold Peto, acclaimed architect and garden designer. The island is renowned for its richness of plant form and colour, which change continuously with the seasons. Pathways wind around the landscape, leading to a number of fascinating garden buildings, such as the Grecian temple, the clock tower, the casita, and an original Martello Tower. Bryce House, the family residence on the island for many years, is presented as it would have appeared during their lifetime. A selection from their vast collection of important paintings, prints, drawings, and books can be seen on display inside.

Oh, yes. It’s not avoiding carbs that keeps us young. It’s ‘Finding fun where fun is to be found.’
I love the sign. Do they sell copies to tourists? I’d like one!
I reckon I should copyright that tag line 🙂

No just Americans, sadly. The world.
